The number of people living with multiple sclerosis increases every hour of every day. This astonishing rate is not going to diminish, nor will it stop, until we've found a cure. Research has made some incredible advances recently, but the world can still only offer disease management drugs and therapies to the 400,000 people living with MS in America.
Our team, Fish for a Cure, formed in 2003 with 4 fish biologists who rode to support two colleagues: one with MS, another with a family member with MS. Our team now numbers almost 50, with members from NOAA, UW, the Seattle Aquarium, Woodland Park Zoo, Pacific Science Center, Western Washington University, and Washington Fish and Wildlife (and lots of other friends!).
We are generously supported by the At-sea Processors Association.
We each ride for our own reasons. Some because they have MS. Others to support a spouse, sibling, relative or friend. Some just to have a great weekend while supporting a good cause. But, whatever the reason, we all end up in the hope that our efforts will propel the spirits of those with MS, the activities of the MS Society, and the search for a cure.
